Curriculum Statement

St. Joseph’s Catholic Junior School Curriculum Statement

  • At St. Joseph’s Junior School staff, pupils, parents and governors worked together to develop a shared vision for the curriculum, which meets the requirements of the National Framework.
  • The curriculum is broad and balanced and delivered through a skills and concept approach to ensure children have the knowledge, understanding and the skills to progress.
  • A concept based approach grounded in the Statements of what matters, enables the children to foster a curiosity and love for learning, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge, skills (literacy, numeracy, digital and integral skills) and dispositions to solve problems and make decisions now and in the future.
  • Our curriculum is focused on ensuring that pupils develop the four purposes of being ambitious, capable learners, enterprising, creative contributors, ethical and informed citizens and healthy, confident individuals.
  • Assessment at our school enables learners to progress and move forward in their learning journey, building on what they know and can do already.
  • We will encourage our children to take pride in where we are from and where we are now, looking forward to where we will be in the future.
  • The curriculum will be reviewed regularly to ensure it is fit for purpose and impacting positively on children’s development of skills, the four purposes and progression.
